From India to Hong Kong: How Britains empire crumbled

Britains biggest and most important possession, India was viewed as the jewel in the crown of the Empire. In the 1930s and 40s, the Indian independence movement picked up steam under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and other revolutionary leaders and by 1947, the country was given its independence. 50 years later, Hong Kong was handed back to China, and so came the symbolic end of the British Empire.  Jul 1, 2017

CCTV shows man wanted for violent robbery on 92-year-old-woman

Detectives in Hackney have released CCTV footage of a man wanted for committing a violent robbery on an elderly woman in broad daylight on June 27. The man made several attempts to grab her bag; he used such force that she was pulled to the ground. The victim, who was screaming, refused to let go of her bag, so the suspect dragged her until she was in so much pain that she eventually let go. The victim, who recently lost her husband of nearly 70 years, is currently being supported by her family, including her niece who described how she is incredibly distraught, nervous and does not wish to be named out of fear. Man jailed for slapping Muslim girl in the face with a packet of bacon

A man who admitted abusing two Muslim women before hitting one of them in the face with a pack of bacon has been jailed for more than six months.Alex Chivers, 36, of Waltham Cross, north London, pleaded guilty to one count of racially or religiously aggravated common assault and one count of causing racially or religiously aggravated alarm or distress following the incident in Enfield on 8 June. Massive 20ft deep sinkhole swallows couples car in St. Louis

A giant sinkhole swallowed a car completely in St. Louis, Missouri. 25-year-old Jordan Westerberg returned from the gym with his fiancée to find his car had disappeared into the hole. The cause of the sinkhole is unknown as investigations continue. Jun 30, 2017

R2D2 Star Wars droid sold for nearly $3m at auction

A complete R2-D2 unit was sold at auction for nearly $3 million in California on June 28th. It was assembled from components from the original Star Wars trilogy and the first two prequels. The auction house had estimated the deal would be less than $2 million. Apparently, they underestimated how much people love this cute and resourceful droid. Jun 30, 2017

Britains Boris Johnson confident chemical attack in Syria was Assad regime

The worlds chemical weapons watchdog said the banned nerve agent sarin was used in an attack in northern Syria in April that killed dozens of people. British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said he felt the indications suggested Syrian President Bashar al-Assads government were behind the attack, a claim strongly denied by Damascus.
