'Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-joo' stars Lee Sung-kyung and her co-star nam Joo-hyuk have finally confirmed that they are actually in a relationship. This is great news for fans who have shipped the couple following their amazing on-screen chemistry in the MBC drama.
As noted by website Soompi, following Dispatch Korea's report that they had proof of Lee Sung-kyung and Nam Joo-Hyuk dating, the actors have confessed that they are indeed a couple. "After checking with Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk, they confirmed that after being close friends since their modelling days, the pair recently developed romantic feelings for one another and are dating well now," their agency, YG Entertainment confirmed.
YGK-Plus is the modelling agency for both actors and that is where they met and became good friends. So, their relationship was many years in the making. Acting with each other in both 'Cheese in the Trap' and 'Weightlifting fairy' only served to strengthen that bond. Also, as previously noted by website YG United, an official website of MBC broadcasting company had said, "The affection of the two people is so deep that the people surround them recognize and cheer up."
Only recently, fans claimed to have spotted the two together at a Coldplay concert in Seoul. Lee Sung-kyung also uploaded a photo from the concert which apparently revealed Nam Joo-hyuk as well. Dispatch Korea then provided a detailed report on the couple's activities and also provided a wealth of photographic evidence showing Sung-kyung and Joo-hyuk having spent a lot of time together.
In light of the couple confirming they're in a relationship, some of Nam Joo-hyuk's past comments seem very significant, noted another Soompi article. The actor appeared for a lot of interviews in January where he seemingly hinted at his relationship with Lee Sung-kyung. "Bok Joo is someone who says a lot of encouraging things. I really like a character like Bok Joo," he said in one interview.
In another interview, Joo-hyuk said, "I'm the type of person who likes someone for a long time. I don't have a specific ideal type necessarily but I like the character of Kim Bok Joo. I think someone who is in the same field as me...and can become a source of strength for me is my ideal type."
A netizen, after reading about these interviews, commented, "By picking Kim Bok Joo as his ideal type consistently, he was probably hinting at his relationship with Lee Sung Kyung to the public."
In another interview with Arirang TV, the actor was asked about his ideal type of partner and he said, "Someone who is in sync with me emotionally. Nowadays, I like women who have short hair and sharp features because sometimes they look cute but other times they look intimidating," which is almost like how Lee Sung-kyung looks. Other commenters were more direct, saying, "Based on the description of his ideal type, it sounds like Lee Sung Kyung."
