Samsung has a lot of rebranding tasks to do for the Galaxy Note line following the horrible debacle last year with the Galaxy Note 7. With the forthcoming Galaxy Note 8, Samsung is expected to breathe life into the phablet line's appeal. Reports suggest the Galaxy Note 8 will be sporting a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge 4K resolution display.

6.3-inch 4K display

The Galaxy Note 8 is reported to continue the Galaxy S8's Infinity display. According to digital publication based in the Netherlands GalaxyClub, Samsung's next phablet will sport a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge screen with 18:5.9 aspect ratio. There have been a persistent speculation that Samsung might integrate a 4K resolution into the screen, a killer feature that no smartphone maker has pulled off yet.

Meanwhile, a photo was leaked last 28 May on Twitter suggesting the build of the Galaxy Note 8. It shows a display curved on the sides while the screen's bezels on the top and bottom sides are extremely thin.

Onscreen fingerprint scanner

A fingerprint scanner embedded in the display is another feature that has been reappearing in the rumour mill from time to time. Samsung currently positions the scanner at the back panel of the Galaxy S8 which critics say is bit awkward.

AR support

With the dual camera setup of the Galaxy S8, Samsung is expected to step up its game in this aspect by providing it an augmented reality support for the Galaxy Note 8. However, this feature could be the first introduced by Andy Rubin's Essential PH-1 phone. Back in April, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecasted that Note 8's dual camera will have 13-megapixel telephoto and 12-megapixel wide-angle lenses with dual photodiode known to improve photo quality in low-light situations.

As for the announcement date, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Note 8 in August or September at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany.
