Nokia fans are off to a good summer treat as HMD Global is reported to launch the Nokia 9 phone. The latest benchmark test for the phone reveals that the flagship phone can compete well with high-end handsets available in the market, including the Galaxy S8.

In AnTuTu's benchmark test, results show that the Nokia 9, under the model name Nokia TA-1004, will sport a 2,560 x 1440-pixel display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and 13MP camera. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with graphics processing unit Adreno 540. These are exactly the specs of the Galaxy S8 except for the camera; Samsung's flagship smartphone has 12MP only. However, it has not been detailed well if the 13MP camera refers to the main shooter. Despite that, the results suggest that the Nokia 9 could well be a good challenger to the Galaxy S8.

Based on the photo shared on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Nokia's next-generation smartphone will have a dual camera, a feature that had appeared in previous rumours. BGR speculates that HMD might officially be introduced in public when Google rolls out Android O in the summer.

In the meantime, the Nokia 9 already appeared months ago in Geekbench with a code name "Unknown Heart". The details are almost similar, except that Geekbench suggested the phone will have an 8GB of RAM. Previous rumours point out that the Nokia 9 will sport a 5.27-inch WQHD display, thinner bezels, and an invisible home button. The phone might be placing the fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone, right below the vertical dual camera.

Meanwhile, HMD Global is now brewing the upcoming release of its other devices, including the Nokia 3, 5, and 6 in various markets across the globe. The debut of Nokia 7, 8, and 9 should follow at a later date. HMD previously announced that it has a couple of handset devices on its sleeve waiting to be launched.
