The coronation of the 66th Miss Universe has been completed successfully. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa have clinched the much coveted crown. Colombia and Jamaica, stood first and second runner-ups respectively.
Coming back to the new queen of the universe, this South African beauty pageant and titleholder of Miss Universe 2017 is the second winner from South Africa after Margaret Gardiner in 1978.
Demi recently earned her degree in Business Management from North West University. She was also a rankholder in high school. Her inspiration, role model and motivation is her half sister who is disabled. A hardworking and passionate woman that she is, Demi's goal is to train women in self-defence, so that they can combat any unwanted situation themselves.
In the first question and answer round of the competition, Nel-Peters was asked what is the biggest issue women face around the world?
"Women earn 75% of what men earn doing the same thing. I believe in equal pay for equal work," replied the 22-year-old. This took her through to the Top 3.
The new Miss Universe comes with flamboyance and grace in her stunning tiara. In the final round Harvey asked," What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe?"
"As Miss Universe you have to be confident in who you are as an individual. And Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that she is able to help other women to overconme their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for and I think that is exactly who I am," replied Demi.
This answer was bang on and helped her to win the crown. Yes she is Miss Universe for a reason.
