Korean actress Park Shin Hye will be playing the role of a lawyer in the upcoming film "Heart Blackened," a crime thriller that stars veteran actor Choi Min Sik.
In the film, which will be released on November 2, the actress essays the character of Choi Hee-jeong, who is hired to defend Im Mi-ra, played by Lee Soo-kyung, who is accused of killing her would-be stepmother played by actress Lee Honey.
This is the second time since the 2013 hit film "Miracle in Cell No. 7" that Park Shin Hye will play as a lawyer in a movie and she said, "It wasn't easy because it was my first role as a lawyer in a long time."
"While there was clear evidence that the dad was innocent in 'Miracle,' in 'Heart Blackened,' I was in a situation of 'having to' prove somebody's innocence. So when I stood trial as Hee-jung, things felt awkward and unfamiliar for me," the 27-year-old star said.
She described her real self as a "wishy-washy person" compared to the roles that she has played in many dramas and films.
"Whatever work I do, I tend to do it fast and accurately, but when it comes to fields that I don't know about well, I prefer to just listen. However, since I'm an inquisitive person, I like looking for how-to knowledge on everything and life tips," she said.
She has been in showbiz since age 13 and starred in many dramas including "Stairway to Heaven," "You're Beautiful," "Heartstrings," "Flower Boys Next Door" and "The Heirs."
She has also traveled to different countries and said, "I was surprised to see so many fans recognized me when I visited Japan on a personal trip. I think fans like me because of my healthy, bright and cheerful energy."
Park Shin Hye surmised that her bland appearance is perhaps her asset in having good working relationships with fellow stars.
"I do not actually have a strong nose, a sharp jaw line or a model's body shape, you know. I'm not glamorous and a bit bland, but I think that's my strength. That may be a reason behind what people say is my good chemistry with many actors," she explained.
