Siwan in "The King Loves" MBC

Korean boy band member and actor Im Siwan will be enlisting in the army next month to fulfill his mandatory duty as a citizen.

Plum Entertainment, the star's agency, announced that Siwan will be entering the training camp in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea at 2 pm on July 11. Before entering the camp, Siwan will greet fans who are expected to send him off.

The 28-year-old actor will be undergoing four weeks of of basic military training before he is dispatched as an active duty soldier. He will be serving for 21 months.

Siwan recently wrapped up the filming of his last drama project "The King Loves" together with co-stars Yoona of Girls' Generation and Hong Jong Hyun.

"The King Loves" is a 100-percent pre-produced period drama and tells the story of Won, played by Siwan, a monarch. It will air starting in July.

The cast and crew finished the last day of filming on June 15 after six months. "Many actors and staff members spent the past six months filming this project with joys and sorrows. We were together every single day, so I am happy but also sad now that it's over. We worked really hard on this drama, so I hope viewers enjoy it," said Siwan, according to Soompi.

He started gaining fame as an actor when he was cast in the hit Korean drama "Moon Embracing the Sun" in 2012. Since then, he has starred in drama and film projects including "Man from the Equator," "Standby" and "Misaeng."

For "Misaeng," Siwan won the best actor at the 9th Cable TV Broadcasting Awards, best new actor at the 51st Baeksang Arts Awards, actor special jury prize at the 8th Korea Drama Awards and excellence award at the 4th APAN Star Awards.

Last month, Siwan attended the Cannes Film Festival where his film "The Merciless" was screened. "I thought about how the stage was prepared all for us and our movie. They prepared it so well, so I naturally thought about how I could repay them. It's in an unfamiliar country and the best festival for moviemakers. It was all new," he said of his experience, AllKPop reported.
