American actress and television personality Olivia Munn reportedly turned down the role of Vanessa in blockbuster movie Deadpool because she didn't want to play the character of Damsel in Distress.
In an interview with American Way, American Airlines' in-flight magazine, the 35-year-old revealed that she was not satisfied with the portrayal of Vanessa's character in the movie. The actress also stated that she didn't want to play a 'girlfriend again; instead she was seeking a tough role - something like X-Men: Apocalypse offered to her.
The 'Newsroom' actress will don a superwoman avtaar 'Psylocke' in the upcoming movie.
Talking about her character and how different it is from her earlier appearances, Olivia told the magazine: "I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, 'Yes, as long as you're not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.' And they said, 'Yes, that's an important part. "
The actress also expressed her happiness over getting the opportunity of a fight sequence which "could be her monologue" as well.
Meanwhile, Morena Baccarin, who originally played Deadpool's love interest, feels that Vanessa's character was scrappy and resilient.
In an early interview, Baccarin told Collider: "This character's scrappy, she's not worried about her hair and her nails or messing around. She gets down and dirty and she's not a victim, she's not a damsel in distress."
"I do get involved in the action. And it's great. It actually even says that in some of the fighting, she's like 'I can take care of myself and if you think I'm just gonna sit here and scream so you can come and rescue me, you're wrong, " the actress told the magazine.
