The Korean film "The Swindlers" dislodged Hollywood movie "Justice League" atop the Korean weekend box office on its first week.
Starring Korean actor Hyun Bin, "The Swindlers" tells the story of a con artist, who is previously known to have died, is alive. A prosecutor and another con artist, played by Hyun Bin, team up to track the suspect but with different motives.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), "The Swindlers" sold 1.21 million tickets and earned US$9.14 million for the period November 24 to 26 to edge out "Justice League," which had 258,201 in total admission and revenue of $1.96 million during the three days. "The Swindlers" had a market share of 61.92 percent "Justice League" had 13.27 percent.
"Justice League" opened in Korea on November 15 with 153,569 tickets sold and revenue of $1.14 million. It topped the daily and weekend box offices until "The Swindlers" came along. It has now sold 1.64 million tickets and earned $12.49 million since opening.
"The Swindlers" debuted on top of the daily box office on November 22 and has held the position as of November 27. It has earned $13.49 million with total admission of 1.84 million to date.
Placing third on the weekend box office is "Happy Death Day" with 146,051 tickets sold and revenue of $1.08 million followed by "Thor: Ragnarok," 99,014 tickets sold; "Loving Vincent," 48,797; "Rabbit School: Guardians of the Golden Egg," 29,659; "The Outlaws," 23,448; "Room No. 7," 18,932; "Junglebook & Peter Pan Christmas Special," 18,873; and "The Age of Blood," 13,616.
As of November 27, "Thor: Ragnarok" has earned $35.47 million with 4.76 million in total admission in Korea since it opened on October 25.
