Following the tremendous success of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,' Lucasfilms and Disney have embarked on a new spin-off movie based on the iconic space smuggler Han Solo. The movie is filming and new plot details have reportedly leaked from the sets, teasing locations and story elements.
Express UK notes that website Star Wars News Net has uncovered some details regarding the plot of the untitled Han Solo spin-off movie being helmed by '21 Jump Street' directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The website reports that the new movie starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo will be filming in Spain's second largest canary island, Fuerteventura.
Express UK also notes that a local Spanish newspaper La Provincia, mentions that Fuerteventura will serve as the fictional desert planet of Corellia, Han Solo's homeworld. An extract from the Spanish report, as provided by Express UK reads, "The dune area of Cañada de la Barca, inside the Jandía Natural Park, will become the desert planet of Coreilla, an area where the young Han Solo came from."
The Spanish paper report adds that "[It's] the place where he became the best smuggler in the galaxy doing orders for Jabba the Hutt." Jabba the Hut was a vile slug-like blob of a creature that appeared in the 'Star Wars' original trilogy (1977-1983). He was portrayed as a crime boss who engages in slave trade, gambling and a host of other despicable acts. He was strangled to death by Princess Leia in 'Return of the Jedi.' It is a strong possibility that Jabba may be featured in the Han Solo spin-off, seeing as this movie takes place quite some years before the events of 'A New Hope.'
Corellia is also very important, because, as noted by Comicbook.com, it is the planet, where space transports are manufactured. La Provincia also states that Corellia is "where, according to Legends, [Han Solo] managed to complete the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs, with his precious ship, the Millennium Falcon." However, this particular news about location filming hasn't been acknowledged yet. Time will tell whether the report was accurate.
As regards the antagonist of the Han Solo movie, Express UK mentions that Star Wars theorist Mike Zeroh, has speculated in a video on his Youtube channel, that Dengar could be the villain on Han Solo's tail in the new movie. Dengar was a Corellian bounty hunter who was hired by Darth Vader to capture Han Solo. However, fellow bounty hunter Boba Fett was the one who finally captured the space smuggler. The character appeared briefly in both episode V and VI. Again, this is just speculation, which may have some merit. After all, Star Wars is mostly a Skywalker family saga and was never about Han Solo. So, some of the characters who have connections with Han may be expected to show up and make life difficult for him.
Another antagonist worth mentioning is Greedo. There has been a lot of debate about whether Han Shot Greedo first, due to the Special Edition edits made by George Lucas for the original trilogy, that was hated by many Star Wars fans. In the original 1977 film, it was Han who shot Greedo first, to avoid being killed by him. Phil Lord and Chris Miller might even give their own spin on it in this new movie.
