Adorable rare Asian elephant calf born at Australian zoo

The first Asian elephant calf in seven years has been born at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. The male calf weighs 130 kilograms and managed to stand up within five minutes of birth. The adorable calf doesnt have a name yet. Asian elephant numbers have declined globally with between 30,000 to 50,000 left worldwide. May 28, 2017

Video shows moment of Portland train stabbing suspects arrest

A video shows the arrest of a man charged with killing two people on a train in Portland. Jeremy Joseph Christian stabbed three people on a MAX transit train on May 26. Two of the victims died and one sustained not life-threatening injuries. They had intervened when Christian verbally abused two Muslim women. Several people pursued the attacker after he left the train. The 35-year-old is charged with two counts of aggravated murder and attempted murder. May 28, 2017

Sri Lanka: More than 140 die in worst floods since 2003

More than 140 people have been killed in floods in Sri Lanka. Caused by the worst torrential rains since 2003, half a million people have been affected by the floods. Many had to flee to evacuation centres or shelter on higher ground. Aid had to be delivered by helicopter to cut-off areas. Massive queue forms at Heathrow exit as passengers are told to leave airport

All British Airways flights from Heathrow and Gatwick were cancelled on 27 May after a major IT system failure disrupted the companys flight schedule worldwide. Passengers were told to leave the airport because there were no facilities available to rebook flights. Palestinian prisoners end mass hunger strike after securing concessions

Around 1,100 hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners ended their 40-day fast. They reached a compromise with Israel on additional family visits. Israel agreed to allow the inmates a second family visit each per month. 18 prisoners are being treated in hospital because of the hunger strike.Palestinians rallied behind the hunger strikers as national heroes. More than 6,000 Palestinians are currently in prison for offences linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. May 27, 2017

All British Airways flights from Heathrow and Gatwick have been cancelled on 27 May. A major IT system failure has disrupted the companys flight schedule worldwide. Long queues formed at both airports on the particularly busy bank holiday weekend. Travellers complained about a lack of information from BA. Theresa May: UK security threat level lowered after significant police activity

Following a Cobra meeting, UK Prime Minister Theresa May announced the UK security level will be lowered from Critical to Severe. This means an attack is still considered highly likely. Soldiers currently assisting police in securing potential targets across the UK will be withdrawn at the end of 29 May because of this decision. May 27, 2017

He declared martial law on the island currently engulfed in fighting between soldiers and Islamist militants. Duterte warned soldiers not to rape women and told them to shoot anyone resisting arrest. Human rights groups warn martial law could lead to abuse by security forces. Isis-affiliated extremists took control of parts of the city of Marawi earlier in the week. At least 80 people have been killed in the fighting so far and many civilians have been displaced. May 27, 2017
