Red Velvet's Joy is all set to make her acting debut in an upcoming tvN drama. The talented musician will be acting along side Lee Hyun Woo, who shot to fame through the Korean remake of the Japanese manga, To the Beautiful You.
The show titled The Liar and His Lover, is an adaptation of a Japanese manga, Kotomi Aoki. The drama is scheduled to be aired in March. Revealing more information on the storyline, Koreaboo revealed: "The drama centers around a depressed genius music composer who meets a high school student while living under a hidden identity. With the student's courageous honesty and beautiful singing, they soon fall in love."
The drama will also star The K2's Lee Jung Jin and Uncontrollably Fond's Seo Won. Directed by Kim Jin-min of Time Between Dog and Wolf and Marriage Contract fame, the drama is produced by Bon Factory.
The Japanese manga was already adapted into a movie, I Give My First Love to You. The film was directed by Takehiko Shinjo, and starred newcomer actor Masaki Okada and actress Mao Inoue.
Joy is a part of a five member girl band Red Velvet formed by S.M. Entertainment. The band also comprises of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Yeri. The group made their debut in 2014 with a digital single, Happiness. Since their debut, the group has received high recognition. Their first EP, Ice Cream Cake released in 2015, topped the Gaon Album Chart. The group's first full-length album, The Red, topped various charts like Gaon and the Billboard World Albums Chart.
"In Seoul's metropolitan area, Red Velvet clocked in a 10.7 percent viewership rating during their performance of "Russian Roulette," Soompi reported.
The group has garnered over 160,000 album sales and 3.7 million downloads according to Gaon, and won sixteen music show awards. In 2015, Joy was featured in the fourth season of reality show, We Got Married, starring opposite BtoB member Yook Sung-jae. She went on to win the New Star Award at the 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards.
