Amidst all the Deepavali preparations, a rangoli display at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore created a new record for the largest collage made of glass marbles on Saturday.
The colourful floor decoration, created by local visual artist Vijaya Mohan, measured 10 metre by 12 metre and was determined to set the new Singapore record by the Singapore Book of Records.
Nearly 15,000 glass marbles, coloured paper and glitter were used to make the rangoli, a colourful pattern usually created on the floor using dyed rice and dry flour, for the Rangoli Radiance at Gardens by the Bay.
Heng Chee How, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and MP for Jalan Besar GRC officially unveiled the Rangoli Radiance on Saturday morning. Heng was also seen giving finishing touches to the rangoli.
The 57-year-old artist started the preparations for the rangoli display in August. Vijaya worked with 25 organisations, including voluntary welfare organisations and schools, to create about 500 pieces of artwork, which were later pieced together at the venue on Friday to give the complete look of the Rangoli Radiance display.
This new record is the 14th record created by Vijaya in the Singapore Book of Records.
More than 550 people are supposed to celebrate Deepavali, the festival of lights, on Oct 29.
The Rangoli Radiance exhibition will be celebrated at Gardens by the Bay until Oct 30.
