Sony has just reached a new milestone for PlayStation 4 as it officially hits a record high sales worldwide.

As of 11 June, the Tokyo firm has shipped over 60.4 million of PlayStation 4 units globally. Major markets such as North America, Pacific Asia, and Japan largely contribute to the overall sales. The console was first launched on 15 November 2013.

Sony has also sold over 487 million copies of titles in both digital downloads and at retail stores. In its press statement released on Monday, Sony particularly cited Horizon: Zero Dawn as the leader in sales.

The firm stresses out the "vibrant growth" in the PlayStation ecosystem. Currently, Sony's entire console system has more than 70 million active users from across the globe each month as of March 2017. Meantime, PlayStation Plus has around 26.4 million paid subscribers around the world at the same time.

Sony interestingly shows that active PlayStation 4 users worldwide devote more than 600 million hours in total per week. On the average, each user spends eight hours on PlayStation 4 every week.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and global CEO Andre House expresses his gratefulness for this overwhelming success. "We are very grateful for our fans and partners around the globe who have continued to support PS4. The PS4 platform is in its prime, with the industry's best lineup of exclusive and partner titles slated to release this year, taking full advantage of the power of the PS4 system".

House vows to further expand the PlayStation 4 ecosystem through the PlayStation VR. He has confirmed that several titles, both from independent and AAA developers, are in the pipeline for release including Destiny 2, Gran Turismo Sport, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Pyre, and Absolver.

At Sony's presentation at the E3 2017, the company introduced some of the much-anticipated titles. The head-turner is Insomniac's Spider-Man which has been critically acclaimed for its dynamic combat in an open-world environment.
