Nintendo Switch is by far the most successful console by the company and its popularity is not plummeting any time soon, it appears. And if you could just add the Splatoon 2 with this super-hot gaming console, you have two of the best Nintendo products in Japan, if not the world. In fact, recently Nintendolife.com just announced that Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch hardware bundle sold out "in seconds" on Amazon Japan.
But the demand Splatoon 2 is so paramount among the fans in Japan that Nintendo has started selling empty boxes in the country. Yes, you read that right, for the amount of 540 Yen (around £5) Japanese Nintendo Switch fans can now buy an empty box as a piece of collectible cardboard to mark and remember the remarkable history of Nintendo Switch.
These Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle boxes are coming with no console, no game, no green and pink Joy-cons. It's just a box and the fans are actually buying it.
The craze in Japan, regarding Nintendo Switch and Splatoon can be comprehended from the explanation of Gavin Sheehan of Bleeding Cool. He said, "The reason for the sale of a cardboard box is because the promotion and hype for the game in Japan are so stellar right now, fans are trying to get as much of it as they possibly can, even going to the lengths of stealing in-store promotional posters and labels from game shops. Whether or not the game lives up to the hype is yet to be determined, but if it brings you joy to waste money on an empty box with some art on the side, more power to you!"
Meanwhile, several games have been both revealed and given release dates at a Nintendo Direct event recently.
The main focus of the event revolved around the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusives, Splatoon 2 and ARMS and showcased a plethora of new features of both the titles. More importantly, the event revealed the official release dates for both the games. While ARMS is coming to the Switch on June 16, Splatoon 2 is making its way to the console on and from July 21st.
Not only that, but the age-old gaming company also revealed 13 new games in total, which would be launched in the coming months.
