Major League Baseball has officially announced a new sports game for the Nintendo Switch console slated to come out in September. With Switch's growing list of exclusive titles to be released this year, will Nintendo be able to finally dethrone current leader Xbox One?

R.B.I. Baseball 17 is the latest addition to the Nintendo Switch console as announced by its developer on Wednesday. Although the game is also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS, Major League Baseball (MLB) is glad to announce the game for Switch, which will be released on 5 September.

Nintendo is beefing up its roster of sports titles with R.B.I Baseball 17 added to NBA Playgrounds, NBA 2K18, and FIFA 18, which are all due for release later this year. R.B.I. Baseball 17 is the first licensed pro sports game to be sold in video game retail shops for Switch. Price starts at US$ 29.99.

Switch's controllers are expected to spice up what MLB described of the game already as "fun, fast-paced gameplay in all 30 ballparks." In a statement, MLB says: "The Switch version will take advantage of the platform's unique controller options that allow for gaming everywhere."

MLB announced that Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager graces the cover for the US and Blue Jays centrefield Kevin Pillar for Canada. The first R.B.I Baseball title was first released on NES in the 1980s.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch has been favoured by many video game experts for offering something new on the table. Nintendo has shipped more than 2.74 million units during its launch month. The Kyoto-based video game company is gunning to ramp up its production to 20 million every year following the overwhelming success of the mobile gaming console.

Gaming analyst Michael Pachter predicts that the Switch will overtake Xbox One sales this year. With Switch's unprecedented milestone, this is quite easy to believe. Pachter also noted that Sony can only do a price cut for the PlayStation 4 this holiday to compete against Microsoft and Nintendo.
