Given the growing popularity of Korean content, Netflix is gearing up to release a Korean historical zombie thriller, Kingdom, sometime next year. They announced that they are producing a Korean zombie drama which will be set during Korea's Chosun Dynasty.
According to the reports, the said series will be directed by Kim Sung Hoon, who is known for his film The Tunnel, and is written by Kim Eun Hee, who is famous for her writing in Signal.
The drama reportedly will be focussing on the prince of the Chosun dynasty (1392-1897) as the prince tries to end the great epidemic that is plaguing the people of the country.
By adding Korean content, Netflix hopes to gain viewers not only in Korea but also East Asian countries and even America. Executive Director of Consultants, Media Partners Asia, Vivek Couto stated: "The Korean content category is becoming vital... It has high production value and the content travels."
Currently, the first original South Korean drama series to release on their platform next year is titled 'Love Alarm' which is based on popular webtoon series by Chon Kye Young.
The Vice President of International Originals at Netflix, Erik Barmack said: "Working together, we look forward to transforming this wildly imaginative story into a top-quality drama series for over 86 million Netflix members around the world."
Reportedly, Love Alarm will be available in 2018 and in more than 190 countries, while their second Korean original Kingdom will be will also be released sometime in 2018.
