In the show, the actor will play The Water God Ha Baek, a temperamental deity who takes the most delightful woman as his bride in exchange of rain. Now, it has been reported that Shin Se Kyung has been approached to play the female lead, So Ah, and Gong Myung for the role of Bi Ryeom.
A report on Soompi stated: "None of these actors have made their decisions as of yet, although some reports are saying that Gong Myung has already declined." Bride of the Water God is a fantasy romantic comedy spin-off of the original manhwa of the same name.

Nam told Elle magazine that he is planning to work on his masculine charm. He said: "I know that my looks lean towards a more innocent vibe so, in the future, I'd like to increase my mature and masculine charm."

Nam's first on screen appearance was in the music videos of Akdong Musician and made his acting debut with a supporting role in the tvN drama The Idle Mermaid. His role in high school drama Who Are You: School 2015 won him the Best New Actor at the 4th APAN Star Awards. This was followed by supporting roles in Cheese in the Trap and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
