The MTV Video Music Awards 2016 will be held at New York's Madison Square Garden on 28 August. Over the years, the ceremony has seen a number of celebrities in sophisticated gowns and some others in crazy ensembles.
American singer/songwriter Miley Cyrus, who hosted the event in 2015, left very little to the imagination in a custom Versace outfit that consisted of a silver-strapped top and bedazzling skirt. The former Disney star completed the look with thigh-high silver boots and blonde dreadlocks.
At that time, in an interview with Billboard Magazine executive producer Van Toffler, said: "She feels like the perfect host. She's that that great marriage of music credibility, candour, she uses social media so well to express herself and she's provocative and chaotic and unpredictable, everything we want for this show...We have [planned] a lot of wide camera shots and a lot of audience reaction shows. And we have a delay so we're prepared for her. There's a chance for anything."
In 2013, Cyrus had sparked controversy after she slipped into a nude-shade plastic bikini and performed a duet of Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke. She also placed a foam finger on her private parts as well as his. The raunchy routine was the most talked about incident from the show, reportedly drawing 3,06,000 tweets per minute.
As music fans around the world gear up for MTV Video Music Awards 2016, IBTimes Singapore has hand picked controversial appearances of the singer from last year's event.
