It's Mother's Day today, a perfect time to celebrate and honour motherhood. Mother's Day is observed every year on the second Sunday in the month of May.
To mark this celebration, Facebook has started the floral decorations to its Messenger app and now the festivities seem to be spreading to the social media platform itself. It is said that Facebook apparently is trying to test a new reaction that features a flower.
This update was first spotted by a Twitter user, Sreedev Sharma. The Verge quoted a Facebook spokesperson who said in a statement: "To celebrate Mother's Day, we are testing the ability for people in a few markets to leave a flower reaction."
This is the first time the social networking company has offered a temporary reaction and it has been introduced after they expanded the like button to include a range of other responses three months ago.
Facebook did not specify the markets in which the flower will be available. After Mother's Day, you won't be able to leave the flower as a reaction, but it will still appear underneath any posts where it has been added.
It is said that the celebration of Mother's Day has begun in the United States during the early 20th century. Anna Jarvis is now known as the founder of the Mother's Day holiday in the US. It is said that Jarvis had campaigned for a special day for mothers to recognize their contribution to their families and the society.
The first official Mother's Day is believed to have celebrated at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia in 1908. Mother's Day is now celebrated across the globe.
