The 2016 edition of one of the major K-pop music award ceremonies, Mnet Asian Music Awards, is nearing. Popularly abbreviated as MAMA, the outstanding achievement awards for music are all set to rock the Korean entertainment scene.
The annual event, which began in 1999 under the name Mnet Km Music Festival, will have its showcasing at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong this year. The 2016 edition marks the ceremony's entry into its 18th year.
As per Mnet's official website, there are a few new additions to the gala event apart from red carpet, awards ceremony and convention. The award ceremony is all set to incept a Professional Category Awards along with recognizing the achievements of Asia's music experts. The organizers apparently are also vouching for a professional music conference and a Creators' Forum.
Recently, the organizational team of MNET released a long list of nominees in various categories of Korean music scene. Some of the popular titles include Best New Male/Female Artist, Best Male/Female Group, Best Vocal Solo, Best Band performance etc.
