A 34-year-old Maserati driver has been charged in court today for injuring a traffic police officer in a hit-and-run incident at Bedok Reservoir Road. The accused Lee Cheng Yan has been charged with the offence of causing a serious hurt with rash driving.
Even though Lee requested for bail, the court rejected it, and he is now remanded for seven days at Bedok police station. The court will hear his case again on next Friday. If found guilty, Lee Cheng Yan will face four years imprisonment and a fine of S$10,000.
Details of the Incident
The incident happened on Friday night at around 09.30 PM at the Bedok Reservoir Road. Traffic Police Officer Khairulanwar Abd Kahar was conducting enforcement checks at that time, and he encountered Lee's vehicle. When Khairulanwar Abd approached Lee for the check, the driver suddenly accelerated the vehicle and hit the on-duty police officer.
The Police Officer was dragged for more than 100 meters, and finally, he fell to the road sustaining grievous injuries.
History of previous violations
This is not the first time that Lee Cheng Yan has committed a similar crime. On last July, Police charged Lee Cheng Yan with S$13,500 for two offenses including the usage of an altered exhaust system in his Maserati and for injuring a motorcyclist in an accident at Orchard Road. As per reports, Lee Cheng Yan was caught more than eight times for using his altered Maserati between May 2013 and November 2015.
