South Korean actor and businesswoman Lee Yoo Ri might be joining the cast of KBS drama 'The Weird Father.' The news comes less than a week after it was learned that Kim So Yeon had decided to drop out of the project.
Website Allkpop mentions a statement by Yoo Ri's agency saying she has been offered the role of the female lead, that was originally meant to be played by actor Kim So Yeon.
"Lee Yoo Ri received an offer to appear in KBS 2TV's weekend drama 'The Weird Father.' She's not confirmed yet, but she's reviewing it," her agency The Jun Entertainment had said on January 2.
The role that Lee Yoo Ri will play if she does accept the offer by KBS, is that of an attorney called Park Hye Young, who will be the female lead opposite Lee Joon who will be playing Ahn Joong-Hee in the drama. She is also described as the pride of her family. Allkpop also notes that if she decides to join the drama, this will be her first comeback to television dramas since June 2016.
The reason for actor Kim So Yeon dropping out of 'The Weird Father' is not known. The 'All About Eve' television drama actor had cited personal reasons for opting out of the project. She had just begun her relationship with actor Lee Sang Woo after starring opposite him in 'Happy Home' and may not have wanted to be engaged to another daily drama, which is quite understandable.
The synopsis, as per dramabeans, describes 'Father Is Weird' as a story about a family that lives on the outskirts of Seoul, held together by its hardworking patriarch and his wife. However, the father has been hiding his real identity for thirty-five years and now all of his children are grown up and about to be married. His wife is a dedicated, responsible mother to his three daughters and one son, but with him, she behaves like a typical Korean aegyo, or coquette. Then one fine day, a young man shows up at the household and declares himself the son of the family. Despite knowing that he is not the birth father to this young man, the patriarch takes him in and insists that he is his true son.
The drama is scheduled to air in February. The first script reading will take place on January 8.
