The Philippines is proving itself as the land of beauty queens. Two beauties from the South Asian country were honoured with the most coveted titles in two different international beauty pageants held this week.

Philippine's Nicole Cordoves was named first runner-up at the 2016 Miss Grand International on Wednesday but the top title win came was by 24-year-old Kylie Verzosa who was crowned Miss International 2016 on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan.

Verzosa, who is a kindergarten teacher, is the 6th person from the country to be awarded the prestigious Miss International crown. The country apparently took the last title in 2013 with Bea Santiago gracing the jeweled honour in Tokyo, Japan, three years back.

Verzosa's insights into various cultures around the world helped her edge nearer to the title. When asked to elaborate her plan after winning the title, the pageant queen said: "If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding because I believe that it is in developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference and appreciate diversity."

Verzosa was cheered for her gratitude-filled winning speech. ABS quoted her saying: "I cannot believe this moment right now, and I am ecstatic and happy. Thank you so much to my family, to the Philippines, to everyone who supported me."

"I did not go through this journey alone, but I had a lot of help from the people who love me. I deeply appreciate this. This moment has only happened in my dreams. Thank you so much, Japan. Thank you, Miss International," she said.

As many as 69 contestants from different countries took part in Miss International 2016. As per Philstar, Miss Australia was crowned first runner-up while Miss Indonesia was placed third. Following them were Miss Nicaragua and Ms. USA, who finished at third and fourth runner-up spots, respectively.
