The action spy comedy movie "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" reigned at the South Korean box office over the weekend as it continued to be the No. 1 film since its opening.
According to data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the movie starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Mark Strong and Taron Egerton topped the weekend covering September 29 to October 1 with 1.58 million tickets sold and gross of US$11.89 million.
It edged out the Korean film "I Can Speak," which had 549,434 in total weekend audience and revenue of US$3.83 million.
In third place is "Yo-Kai Watch Movie 3" with 81,951 tickets sold followed by the Korean "Memoir of a Murderer" with 72,797 and "The Lego Ninjago Movie" with 67,100.
"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" was released in South Korea on September 27 and it topped the box office with 481,891 tickets sold and US$2.66 million in first-day revenue.
It achieved the record of setting the biggest opening day for an R-rated film in Korea, according to Yonhap News.
The film erased the first-day feat of 475,482 by the Korean film "Asura: The City of Madness" which was set last year.
It also surpassed the record of the original "Kingsman" movie in 2015 of 78,058 in total audience.
Since its release in South Korea, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" has topped the daily box office for five days.
For the month of September, "Memoir of a Murderer," starring Seol Kyung Kyu and AOA's Seolhyun, topped the box office with 2.59 million in total audience and revenue of US$18.19 million.
It was followed by "Kingsman" The Golden Circle" with 1.73 million; "I Can Speak," 1.42 million; "The Hitman's Bodyguard," 1.41 million; and "It," 882,964.
