Korean actress Kim Ji Won said her character in the recent drama "Fight for My Way" is closer to her personality than the role she played in the hit drama "Descendants of the Sun."
"When I was done with 'Descendants of the Sun,' I thought I was like the character I played. But after I finished this drama, I think I got much closer to the character. Many have told me that I look much brighter these days," she told Ilgan Sports and Korea JoongAng Daily.
Despite that "Descendants of the Sun" was a huge hit, Kim Ji Won's popularity didn't benefit much from it. It was "Fight for My Way" who let her shine, the article noted.
In "Fight for My Way," she co-starred with Park Seo-joon and played the role of Choi Ae-ra, a salesperson who wanted to become a news announcer. It became a hit and topped the TV popularity index.
When asked what made the drama popular, Kim Ji Won said, "It is hard for me to say (laughs)."
"Because the show was on the bright side, there were many scenes that were entertaining. Many of those funny scenes seemed to have contributed in making the drama popular," she said.
She picked the scene where she was being interviewed as memorable.
"Because of what my job requires, I have had many auditions. I took challenges and failed [sometimes]. I got to commiserate a lot," she added.
Her character in the drama is cheerful but it's not her in real life.
"It doesn't reflect my normal self. The scriptwriter had put down cute lines and I took time to think about how to make it work well. I don't act [cute] normally but I guess I did fairly okay as many around me have told me that they thought the drama was fun," she said.
