K-pop diva IU scored her eight Korean TV music show win for her latest album "Palette." On SBS' "Inkigayo" on May 7, the 23-year-old singer won first place with 9,790 points over Hyukoh's "Tomboy" and WINNER's "Really Really."
"Palette" is IU's fourth studio album and her first in one-and-a-half years since releasing Chat-Shire" in October 2015. It contains 10 tracks including the title song "Palette," which features Big Bang's G-Dragon, who also co-wrote the lyrics with IU.
Since releasing th album on April 21, IU has won on TV music charts including "M Countdown," "Music Core," "Inkigayo" and "Music Bank." "Palette" also ranked No. 1 on Gaon chart and has also been reigning on the Korean Instiz chart for days.
On Billboard, "Palette" debuted at No. 1 on the World Albums chart, the first time that IU has topped it. It also ranked No. 4 on Billboard's World Digital Songs Sales, No. 25 on Heatseeker Albums and No. 49 on Spotify Viral 50.
IU said she chose the title "Palette" for her album as she wanted to try other music genre. "A palette holds a variety of colors. During art class in elementary school, I was always more fond of the palette as opposed to the painting I was making," she said, according to Yonhap News. "This album was first started from the idea that as much as a palette is a tool, it could also be the artwork itself."
She also said "I really like the songs and am also confident of it. I believe many people will like it. I like it a lot."
In an online broadcast on Naver V Live, IU talked about her album and what she did during her hiatus. "I came back in a long time since 'Chat-Shire.' I am grateful that many were pleased to have me back. Though I'm busy, every day is very happy.," she explained.
While she was working on "Palette," IU said she was also in the drama "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo." During her break, IU traveled to many places with her friend Yoon In Na.
"I read, watched movies and shopped a lot. I had a fun time during my time off. And I worked really hard," she said.
