Prolific Italian hacker Luca Todesco aka 'qwertyoruiop' has announced his successful root aka jailbreak on Sony PS4's latest firmware (v4.50 and v4.55). Todesco has returned to the spotlight after a long break from the iOS jailbreak scene as he recently announced giving up all further attempts on jailbreaking iOS 10 or releasing its public version.
In his recent tweet, Todesco revealed his new feat of successfully jailbreaking PS4 on firmware v4.50 and v4.55. If the past is any indication, the hacker is unlikely to release the public version of the jailbreak for Sony's latest gaming console and instead use it for self-appeasement and research purpose only.
The new PS4 jailbreak is touted to be based on webkit vulnerability, but it's also expected to work fine with the Kernel exploit.
It may be recalled that another prominent iOS hacker George Hotz aka Geohot had earlier accomplished a similar feat with root access on Sony's PS3. He was later forced to battle a legal case pursued by the Japanese company, opposing his move to expose the security loopholes on the gaming console.
Although the court case was eventually settled, the jailbreak community is now more careful about indulging in a legal wrangle with tech giants like Sony.
