Avid Grand Theft Auto gamers are in for a treat as renowned YouTuber MrBossFTW (aka Ross) walks us through the ultimate bulletproof armour comparison test for Duke O Death, Insurgent and Kuruma, in his latest gameplay video for GTA Online. As the YouTuber explains, the test also compares one random armoured civilian vehicle (armoured Cognoscenti) with the aforementioned ones to determine the best bulletproof armour among all available cars in the game.
As Ross admits, the gameplay video for the bulletproof armour comparison test has been sourced from fellow YouTuber and GTA forums member CarnageRacing00. The test factors in various parameters including the strengths and weaknesses of each type of bulletproof armour and what makes them better than others.
With due credit to TY, Frost and Urban who helped Ross in creating this video, we now have a comprehensive comparison test at our fingertips to precisely pick the best armoured car in GTA Online history.
Drag Race test
Although the primary goal of this test is to determine the car with the best armour on it, we still compare these cars in a real time drag race aka speed test across the runway of Los Santos International Airport.
The Armoured Cognoscenti joins the drag race along with Duke O Death, armoured insurgent, and armoured Kuruma. All the four vehicles are fully upgraded and tuned for the highest engine and handling performance, so that we get the exact picture of where they stand in terms of top speed and acceleration.
As Ross clarifies, the race results seem to be quite astonishingly unbelievable given the insane acceleration potential of Insurgent and Kuruma right at the start. However, the Duke O' Death has superior top speed which enables it to nudge ahead of its competition in the latter part of the drag race and it is clearly the fastest car in the group of armoured cars chosen for this test.
On the other hand, the Kuruma finishes the race in the second position, thanks to its improved traction with a sporty spoiler on its back. The Insurgent and Duke O' Death clearly lack the traction due to the missing spoiler and that invariably fuels Kuruma's superior acceleration potential in the race.
Duke O' Death's top speed seems to be insane and one of the reasons could be its high-calibre engine from the muscle-car category. In contrast, the Kuruma belongs to the Sports category with a peppy engine while the Insurgent is a heavy military vehicle with lower power to mass ratio.
Duke O' Death absolutely smokes it as its rivals struggle to keep up with its top speed, although the Kuruma tries really hard to impress with its superior traction and acceleration capabilities.
Consequently, among the three cars being tested, the Duke O' Death clearly enjoys the speed advantage in getaway missions, hot pursuits and wild car chases.
As Ross sums up, the Duke O' Death holds the benefit of being a two-door car for two people while the Insurgent, Kuruma and Cognoscenti are made to fit four people. It is being speculated if the extra seats and doors could be adding to the overall weight of the four-door cars and thereby reducing their power to mass ratio while the two-door Duke could be enjoying higher agility and speed due to this sole reason.
On the hindsight, the armoured Schafter could indeed be the fastest armoured car, although it's not being tested against the likes of Duke in this video.
Minigun aka Gunfire test
Moving on to the minigun test, we will ascertain how many bullets each of these cars can take before catching fire and exploding into thin air. As you can see in the video, all the four armoured cars are lined up one behind the other, facing the players sideways.
Once again, the results seem to be quite interesting, given the fact that the armoured Cognoscenti happens to be the first vehicle to explode in the test. The second weakest armoured car is the Kuruma, which seems to have almost the same protection as the Duke O' Death that explodes a bit later.
To sum it up, the Insurgent has the best armour capability against gunfire among all the four cars, as it refuses to die even after all the other three cars have blown up. The Insurgent is clearly the winner in the Minigun test as it takes ages to catch fire even with multiple rounds of bullet firing from all sides simultaneously.
RPG Challenge aka Explosives Test
The weakest of all four armoured cars is undoubtedly the armoured Kuruma which cannot survive a single RPG shot as it was basically designed with bullet-resistant armour. To be precise, one RPG or one grenade or a sticky bomb can take down the armoured Kuruma as it is incredibly susceptible to explosive damage.
Both the Duke O' Death and armoured Cognoscenti are capable of surviving one RPG or grenade hit. In other words, it takes two explosive shots to blow them up completely.
Finally, the Insurgent seems to be the king of armoured beasts as it can survive up to five RPG hits before it blows up. In other words, it seems as good as an armoured tank if not better.
Bulletproof Glass and Interior View test
The Duke O' Death has no glass protection on the front for the driver, as there is no windshield. However, the front passenger gets some protection with the metal armoured plate covering a small portion of the windshield.
Probably, the only way to shoot the driver is from the front using a Sniper Rifle, while the visibility for the driver is extremely poor given the 360 degree armoured-plating protection on the Duke. The Duke O' Death does not allow you to throw sticky bombs or other explosives, given its limited visibility and tiny-window access.
On the other hand, the Insurgent can take nearly 15 bullets from the pistol before the integrity of the windshield glass starts breaking up. However, it offers maximum visibility among all the armoured cars, given the multiple glass windows on it.
The Enus Cognoscenti can also withstand nearly 15 bullet shots from the pistol, before the integrity of the glass is compromised. With very little armour plating to cover its windows, the Cognoscenti offers great visibility and enables its driver and passengers to throw explosives from inside the car.
Finally, the Kuruma offers the best protection through its shatter-proof glass mechanism. You may still receive minor damage through constant bullet-firing with a minigun, but that will keep you safe from getting killed until the car's engine catches fire and explodes in thin air.
On the downside, the visibility of both the driver and passengers is very poor inside the Kuruma, thanks to its all-round armoured plating for windows as well as the windshield.
Ramming Power
Moving on to the vehicle ramming power the Insurgent comes on top, given its heavy armour. The Duke O' Death comes second in the overall ramming power, partly owing to its powerful engine and also its muscular body build with sufficient armour plating all around.
Coming to the final verdict, the Duke O' Death remains the king of armoured cars bringing the best of both worlds, considering its top speed and decent armoured protection. The Insurgent, on the other hand, will be a great choice for defending yourself against aerial attacks from Hydras, buzzards and jet planes, but it will be vulnerable to snipers and assault rifles.
