After three years in the making, the Gran Turismo Sport beta is now close to becoming a full-fledged game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. Latest developments reveal how the 13th instalment looks stunning in 4K and 1800p screens.
Stunning 4K, 1800p performance
The new PlayStation 4 title brings a drastic overhaul from the PlayStation 3 version with regards to materials, detail, lighting, and engine acoustics. In terms of its support for PlayStation 4 Pro, the racing video game definitely looks stunning in 4K displays.
Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed back in March that Gran Turismo Sport supports an impressive 4K display with rendering resolution set to 1800p. The result makes cars stand out in their native colours, huge thanks to Polyphony Digital's bt.2020 colour space and high dynamic range rendering.
With the HDR technology used, this allows players to adjust the brightness of the game according to a certain display's capability. Despite the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping, which is found in native 4K output, the game remains stunning.
What about on 1080p displays?
Amidst this exemplary upgrade is a question that has been left unanswered by Polyphony Digital: How can this technology support those who have 1080p screens?
Like many other developers, Polyphony Digital, unfortunately, has not backed 4K downsampling for 1080p displays, producing no variance in the visual enhancements for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. To access the 4K capability from 1080p displays, one will need a downscaler, which is very costly.
This has become a huge disappointment for many anticipating fans, all the more knowing that downscaling can be supported by the developer.
Gran Turismo Sport release date
Last year, the developer announced the delay to 2017 but as of now, there have been no concrete details yet as for the Gran Turismo Sport release date.
In the meantime, it was recently confirmed that the set of Gran Turismo Sport cars will include Porsche automobiles, a first among the game's 13 instalments.
