Overwatch fans can now expect more animated short films to be released once in a while as game director Jeff Kaplan reveals that the development team is currently working on it. At the game's anniversary event in New York City, Kaplan admits that he has fallen in love with the idea of using more clips in Overwatch to convey new narratives.
More animated clips
Jeff Kaplan was ecstatic to announce that the Overwatch team has been working on more animated clips to be used to tell stories to the players. The platform may not be new to Overwatch, it sparked a new level of enthusiasm among players.
"The animated shorts are probably the thing that we have the most fun making. We really love working with our animation group and digging out the stories not tied to any constraints of gameplay — we can tell any stories we want", says Kaplan.
The esteemed game director adds that they are "hard at work" to produce more of those.

On March 16, 2016, Overwatch first released the Animated Short teaser showing how the clip is done in the lab—from the animation down to the voice-over of characters. The first animated short released to the public was dubbed "Recall" wherein Winston, a brilliant genetically engineered gorilla scientist wrestles with the decision to call Overwatch agents back in the midst of Talon's invasion on his laboratory in the abandoned Watchpoint: Gibraltar. The last animated short, called "Infiltration", was released in November 2016 introducing Sombra. Other heroes previously featured in animated short are Hanzo, Widowmaker, Soldier: 76, Genji, and Tracer.
Apparently, many fans have likened the first season of the animated short series as they have become Overwatch's most viewed videos on YouTube.
In the meantime, the director has not given details yet as to which heroes will come out and when to release the next animated short.
