Goblin actor Gong Yoo has revealed about the sad side of the Korean entertainment industry. Though, the actor climbed up the ladder of success in the last few years, he didn't shy away from accepting the hidden truth of the industry.
In an interview with Straits Times, the Baesksang Art Awards best actor opened up about the working conditions of the filming staff for the Korean dramas.
The actor who recently concluded his fan meeting in Hong Kong, said that they need to address the long working hours of crew members for Korean dramas. The Train to Busan actor said, "A lot of the staff cannot sleep or rest well. They film from morning to night and, if some voices and sounds cannot be captured, they have to go back to the recording studio."
The actor further added saying, "They can rest only after the recording is done."
It's pretty tiring and frustrating for the members, in fact, to recall, the assistant producer of the tvN drama, Drinking Solo, Lee Han Bit committed suicide on 26 October 2016, allegedly for the same reason. In fact, after six months of his death, his suicide note surfaced which mentioned that he had been forced to work for 55 days straight, with only two days off.
According to Koreaboo, Han Bit's suicide note mentioned, "The phrase 'exploitation of labor', which the staff on set would say half jokingly and half seriously, dug a hole in my heart. Of course, I am also just a worker, but at the very least, I shouldn't have to force as much work as possible out of the others."
Goblin actor admitted, "Since I became an actor and got famous, sometimes I would feel stressed. Deep inside, I want more freedom. I want to relax more and relieve my pressure."
He also added saying that he has been living the same routine for the past 16 or 17 years.
In other news, the veteran actor revealed that for the upcoming project he would like to play a villain or a crazy person, Kpopstarz reported.
