South Korean television drama 'Defendant' also known as 'Innocent Defendant,' has retained its top spot in TV ratings as the most-watched Monday-Tuesday slot drama. Hot on its heels is MBC's 'Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People,' maintaining a steady growth and retaining its runners-up spot.

Website Soompi mentions that as per Nielsen Korea, the February 6 episode of 'Defendant' scored 18.6 percent ratings across the nation. However, it was also a 0.1 percent drop from its previous episode. On the other hand, MBC's 'Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People' achieved 10.5 percent ratings which is much lower than 'Defendant.' However, the ratings for 'Rebel' made a 0.5 percent jump on the February 6 episode, from its previous 10 percent rating in its previous January 31 episode, as per AGB Nielsen.

Though the numbers are not enough to suggest anything right now but indeed 'Rebel' is doing the catching up, gradually. It won't be a shock if it ends up snatching away the top spot from 'Defendant' as such a thing has often occurred with various competing dramas before. After all, it is not that easy to predict viewer response, even towards an apparently favourite drama.

Soompi also adds that one particular scene in 'Defendant' made the real time ratings climb as high as 22.42 percent. It was the scene where detective Ko Dong Yoon, played by actor Lee Shin-sung recalls the conversation he had with Ji Sung's character Park Jung Woo, after the latter had a car accident that was caused by Cha Min Ho, played by Uhm Ki Joon.

Ko Dong Yoon discovered that Cha Min-ho had swapped identities with Cha Sun-ho and calls Seo Eun-hye, played by Choi Yoo-ri. He is in his car and says he wants to meet her when another vehicle crashes into his car - a murder attempt. He loses consciousness. This scene creates an obvious tension and uncertainty, which no doubt helped the ratings climb for the drama.

In fact, the representatives of the SBS drama have teased fans even further by saying that the next episode will have a twist that will change a lot of things. The spokesperson revealed, as quoted by Soompi: "Next week's episodes will bring satisfaction to our viewers as they will answer a lot of the questions, and will also bring a game-changing twist that will surprise everyone. Episodes 5 and 6 are the lead-ups to this, like a frog that is collecting all of its energy as it prepares to jump."

The sixth episode of 'Defendant' airs tonight on SBS.
