2NE1's final farewell for fans with their single Goodbye is already out, sans its youngest member Minzy. Now, the group's lyricist and rapper CL has revealed that she has penned the words as a final goodbye for Minzy.

"The song is something that I had written before. After Minzy left YG Entertainment, the three of us were preparing an album. It was a song that was supposed to be like a letter to Minzy. I edited the lyrics so it would be talking to both Minzy and the fans at the same time. It didn't take me long to edit the lyrics because I move fast when someone is believing in me," CL said in an emotional interview to IIgan, as quoted by AllKPop.

The group consists of CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy. However, the youngest of all, Minzy left the group on 5 April 2016. She is currently preparing for her solo debut under Music Works. Dara and CL will be retained by YG as soloists, as they have signed the new contracts too.

While describing the MV, AllKPop narrated: "Goodbye is about saying farewell until the day you meet again, and the MV features CL, Dara, and Bom walking through past images of the YG Entertainment group. This is a bittersweet milestone for fans as this is 2NE1's goodbye song."

The MV surpassed one million views on YouTube within hours after its release. With lyrics penned by CL herself, J Gramm and Rook Monroe has composed the song. This will be 2NE1's final song, as they have been officially disbanded almost after seven years after it was formed.

The group was famous for having a distinct, mixed music genres with a unique and edgier style—pop, hip hop, reggae, electronic and dance. Forbes once described 2NE1 as a "pop group characterized by bold, bright outfits and big, catchy hooks punctuated by rap verses and an in-your-face swagger".

The girl band's last album Crush was released in 2014 and they last performed together as a three-member band at the 2015 Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA). The girl-band has broken the record for the highest-charting K-pop album on the Billboard 200 with Crush. The band shot to fame with their 2009 debut single Fire but became a household name worldwide after releasing their boastful girl power anthem, I'm the Best.
