Korean boy band BTS said their willingness to share their everyday lives to their fans was the key to their winning of the Social Artist Award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs).

"We share our everyday lives a lot (on the SNS), which I think may be an advantage," said member J-Hope at a press conference in Seoul, according to the Korea Herald.

BTS won the award over Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes and became the first K-pop group to triumph at the BBMAs.

Member Jimin they regularly upload photos and video on social media.

"I made effort to communicate with the fans as frequently as possible through photos and videos. They are very curious about how we live our lives," he said.

BTS is one of the most popular K-pop groups on social media. The group's Twitter account has 6 million followers.

A single tweet from the BTS account can accumulate up to more than 200,000 retweets and likes in a short time.

"It's like we share thoughts, our diaries with the fans," according to Jungkook.

During the press conference, they were also asked about being compared to Psy, who won at the 2013 BBMAs through "Gangnam Style."

"We can't really compare the scale of our success with Psy, whose music video dramatically turned the world upside down. We're just taking baby steps, as our fan base is growing little by little," explained Rap Monster.

BTS also narrated their experience at the awards show including an invitation from Celine Dion and The Chainsmokers.

"Celine Dion is one of my favorite singers and she actually invited us to join her show. We could not go because of our schedule, but it was such an honor," said member V.

The Chainsmokers also invited BTS to their rehearsal and Suga revealed that a collaboration may come soon.

"We had a good talk. We have high hopes on (collaborating) with them. I'm sure good news will come soon," he said.

Suga said they were starstruck to see all the famous singers that they admire.

"We felt pressure as the first K-pop group to attend the ceremony, but had a blast seeing artists whom we'd only seen on TV. It was so amazing to actually see Drake," he said.
