Singaporean model Angie Watkins had to exit the race for becoming Asia's Next Top model on Wednesday. The 20-year-old was the only one chosen from hundreds of aspiring models in Singapore for the Asian version of America's Next Top model.
Watkins, who started her modeling journey at the age of 14, is the product of the New Face contest and a winner of subsidiary title Miss Cagliari Cosmopolitan. Watkins never thought of making a full-time career out of modeling and was coaxed by her well-wishers into the profession.
"I actually wasn't going to audition for New Face. My boyfriend's mother told me to do it or she'd be angry with me so I went ahead. And look where it's taken me... That day literally kick-started everything," the super model told New Paper.
Talking about her first ramp show and the boost in confidence she got, Watkins stated: "When I got off the stage, even before I knew I had made it (through to the next round), I felt so good about myself. I faced my fears by walking on this huge stage with a huge crowd staring at me. The bottom line is, there's no harm in trying."
After her journey took off from the New Face Contest, there was no looking back for Watkins. She is now the face of many brands and represents tons of fashion labels. She has also shot for most of the top magazines and appears in varied contests.
Although Watkin is out of ASNTP 's league, the talented model is happy about her reaching so far and the bagful of wisdom she got from the reality series. While sharing her on-the -show experience, she asserted: "I was actually shocked I got so far. When I first joined, I didn't have much confidence in my ability to beat the other girls who were so beautiful and had many more years of modeling experience. I didn't unpack until the fifth week of the competition."
"My goal from the start was not to win, but to not be kicked out the first week," the slender model told the media outlet.
Watkins bid farewell to the show after getting the lowest score in Tresemme challenge, which was a combination of pictorial and ramp modeling. Julian Flores, who is the last Filipino left in the show, bagged the top position in the challenge judged by former AsNTM host, Georgina Wilso. The other three finalists from the show are Patricia Gunawan from Indonesia, San In Kim of Korea, and Tawan from Thailand.
Asia's Next Top Model Cycle 4 airs at 9 p.m. every Wednesday, on Star World Asia. The show will air at 8 p.m. in Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. You can stream the previous episodes on AsNTM official website.
