Apple has recently started rolling out the latest mobile operating system update iOS 11.0 and now, the company executive Craig Federighi has reportedly confirmed that a popular 3D Touch gesture for the iPhone will make a return to the Apple devices via an upcoming software update. The said gesture was removed in iOS 11.0.

The 3D Touch gesture was a fast way of going to the multitasking screen. It only required a firm press on the left edge of the device's screen and then a flick right to bring up the app switcher.

As reported by MacRumors, Federighi, via an e-mail, said that Apple had to pull the useful shortcut temporarily "due to a technical constraint." Apparently, the tech giant has now managed to overcome the problem. "We will be bringing it back in an upcoming iOS 11.x update," Federighi promised.

For now, the only way of getting to the app switcher in the iOS 11.0 is with a double-press of the home button (for the iPhones that have a home button). For the iPhone X, once it's available, users can swipe the device's virtual home bar up and pause in the middle of the screen to trigger multitasking. While this new method is new and people will gradually get accustomed to it, it will surely be a good development if Apple brings back the old 3D Touch gesture to the new iPhone models.
