Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have split. The 30-year-old actress filed for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean star in Los Angeles Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences.
According to celebrity news website TMZ, the court documents state that they separated on 22 May. The couple did not have a prenuptial agreement and Heard is asking for spousal support. However, Depp has petitioned the judge to reject her claim.
Heard and Depp met during filming of their movie The Rum Diary in 2011. The 52-year-old actor, who was married to Lori Anne Allison from 1983 to 1985, proposed to Heard on Christmas Eve 2013 after dating for a year. The two tied the knot in February 2015.
The split comes after the 52-year-old's mother Betty Sue Palmer passed away on 20 May. Adding on, Depp's latest film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, is due to be released on 26 May.
Previously, in an interview with E! News, Depp talked about their relationship and gushed about Heard. He said: "We connect on a lot of levels but the first things that really got me was she's an aficionado of the blues. I would play a song, some old obscure blues song and she knew what it was."
He added: "She's very very literate. She's a voracious reader as I have been so we connected on that as well. And she's kind of brilliant."
