Qualcomm has just launched the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 630 mobile platforms, which, according to the company, has been designed to push the processors made by the chip makers to the next level.

The mobile platforms have been specially created to make the Snapdragon 660 and 630 processors more upgraded, so that they can become compatible with today's advanced technologies, such as true-to-life photography and enhanced security, said the company in a blog post.

The features that were previously available only with Qualcomm's high-end 800 processor tier, including Qualcomm Spectra camera ISP, Qualcomm Kryo CPU, and Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX), will now be accessible by using the mid-ranged Snapdragon 660 and 630 chips.

Customers will now be able to take the advantage of 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP, which can capture upto 24 megapixels single ISP images with no lag, improved autofocus, and true-to-life color capture with these two new chips. Spectra also supports 4K videos.

While Snapdragon 630 will support dual camera up to 13-megapixel, 660 has the capability of supporting upto 16-megapixel camera.

Additionally, the new platforms will also support Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK, designed for integrating machine learning and deep neural networks into apps and software.

Snapdragon 630 and 660 also include Snapdragon X12 Lte Modem, which supports speeds up to 600 Mbps, advanced RF Front End support and Bluetooth 5 compatibility.

"This is especially beneficial in houses and offices made of thick brick and concrete walls, engineered to allow for a better connection in the entire space without coverage dead spots," Qualcomm says. "The 660 is designed to support up to 2X the data throughput, allowing users to enjoy unfettered video, faster downloads, and an excellent connectivity experience."

Snapdragon 660's octa-core Kyro 260 CPU has also been upgraded to provide a 20% improvement over its predecessor Snapdragon 635, while the new Adreno GPU is expected to show a 30% improvement over Snapdragon 635. On the other hand, the 630 platform has been upgraded with Adreno 508 GPU and octa-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU.

Both the platforms also come with support for biometric identification, including fingerprint, iris scanning, facial recognition and voice prints.

Snapdragon 660 has already been made available in the market, while the 630 platform will make its debut by the end of this month.
