The success of any flagship smartphone is often determined by its internal hardware comprising the fastest SoC in the market as has been the case with Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ featuring Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor. In the ever-changing tech world, there is very little shelf life for a processor chipset as a new successor is born to take over the flagship mantle, just like the Snapdragon 845 aka SDM845 chip dethrones its predecessor in Qualcomm's latest product listing on its official site.
Snapdragon 845 closer than I thought. SDM845 listed on Qualcomm's website and elsewhere. Certain other SoCs too ;) https://t.co/rWqPKl1OQW pic.twitter.com/JWfAGqXwx3

The official listing clarifies that Qualcomm is already working on its new Snapdragon 845 processor chipset, while rumours abound that it won't see the light of day until 2018. Based on the 7nm die-processing, the SDM845 chip is expected to be more power-efficient than the current-gen Snapdragon 835 which is built on the 10nm fabrication.
Latest reports from Taiwan suggest that the trail production of 7nm processor chip is already underway while the full-fledged production is set to kick off next year.
Samsung is expected to be the first handset maker to debut Snapdragon 845 and speculation is rife that its forthcoming flagship phone Galaxy S9 will be the one to feature Qualcomm's next-gen processor onboard, ahead of its competition. Consequently, it is deemed that the iPhone 8 may also miss the opportunity to feature the latest Qualcomm processor at the time of its release.
