The Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong-ki received the award for his performance as Captain Yoo Shi-jin in the said drama during the 29th Korea Producer Awards that took place on March 17. Joong Ki took this opportunity to thank and praise his beautiful co-star Song Hye-kyo, who played his lady love in the drama.
The Korea Producer Awards are an initiative of Korean Producers & Directors' Association, and winners were selected through a system of votes, by the producers.
During the acceptance speech, the City Hunter actor thanked the writers of Descendants of the Sun-Kim Eun-sook and Kim Won-seok. He also thanked the producers for making such an awe-inspiring drama which is remembered by the people even though it is ended almost a year ago.
Joong-ki paying tribute to Song Hye-kyo during the acceptance speech said, "In Korea, actors always steal the spotlight—compared to the actresses. To me, this drama was a big project, as it marked my comeback to the entertainment scene after spending two years in the military. I want to share this glory with my co-star Song Hye-kyo who shared the burden and constantly reassured me and gave me the confidence by being there for me."
According to inquistr, in a recent interview, Song Hye-kyo too stating how special the drama is for her said, "For me, 2016 was a year that began and finished with Descendants of the Sun. People usually forget about a drama six months after it finished airing. However, in the case of DOTS, it is different. I'm thankful that people remembered it for such a long time."
The chemistry of the on-screen couple was so captivating that the fans of Descendants of the Sun often guessed them to be a real-life couple. However, originally, the drama didn't really have the romance bit. The script was later spiced up and some adorable love scenes were included which enthralled the audience.
The drama was not only a huge hit in Asia but also in other countries like the U.S. and Canada, it even made the stars globally famous.
