Kang Gary, the renowned South Korean television star and musician visited Singapore on Saturday for the grand opening of Korean cafe chain dal.komm COFFEE's first outlet in the nation. The former cast of popular variety show Running Man caused a stir at Orchard mall The Centrepoint on Saturday as the shoppers were pretty excited to meet the actor.
Hundreds of fans were seen cheering for the actor, but only 130 contest winners were given a chance to get up close with the 38-year-old actor in a meet-and-greet session at the entrance hall of the mall.
Addressing his much publicised recent exit from Running Man, Kang said in a short press conference that he left the show to focus more on his music. He spent seven years as one the most prominent cast of the show.
"I am now working on my music and I plan to release a new album this year," Kang said through a translator.
Kang, who is also known as a rapper and lyricist, first came into limelight as part of the popular and award-winning hip-hip duo Leessang. The actor has also released music as a solo artist.
Apart from the outlet opening, Kang was given a surprise by Weileen Png, dal.komm COFFEE Singapore's managing director, who organized a cake to celebrate the star's upcoming birthday. Kang will turn 39 on Feb 24.
