Nintendo's highly-awaited mobile platform game 'Super Mario Run' has been optimised for one-handed gameplay and constantly locked up to internet connection in order to prevent piracy. Mario's developer Shigeru Miyamoto has explained to Mashable that the security constraints have forced them to launch the game on iOS, before releasing it on Android.
Here is what Miyamoto had to say regarding the game's release details and security constraints:
"This is just—based on the current development environment—a requirement that's been built into the game to support security and the fact that the three different modes are connecting to the network and interacting with one another.
"Unlike our dedicated game devices, the game is not releasing in a limited number of countries. We're launching in 150 countries and each of those countries has different network environments and things like that. So it was important for us to be able to have it secure for all users."
Users are able to download the demo version of Super Mario Run for evaluation purpose through Apple's App Store, ahead of the game's official release on 15 December.
Although the game developer initially intended to make the World Tour mode available as a standalone content that could be played offline, such a move could end up in connection issues while switching back to the Toad Rally and Kingdom modes, which rely on the network save feature.
"We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the Super Mario Run modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure," said Miyamoto in a recent interview with Mashable.
Super Mario Run is now available as a free download along with an optional In-App offer for $9.99 to unlock all three game modes. Avid Mario fans may sign up for official app-based notifications and special offers via the App Store at the time of the game's launch for iOS and Android.
