A seven-minute prologue from director Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated epic war film 'Dunkirk' will reportedly be attached with the 15/70 IMAX 2D film prints of 'Rogue One.'

Slashfilm claims to have learned from multiple sources that a seven-minute prologue of Nolan's upcoming film will play on select IMAX 70mm showings of the Gareth Edwards directed movie.

'Dunkirk' is Christopher Nolan's first film to be shot entirely on 65mm film. His previous features used a combination of 35mm and 65mm formats. Though Lucasfilm's 'Rogue One' has been shot with the digital 'Alexa65' camera, Disney is presenting the movie in 70mm 2D format in 15 theatres around the world that can project on film.

It makes sense that IMAX, which is producing the celluloid prints for 'Rogue One,' will want to tease its audiences about a film shot with their signature large format film cameras. Not that Nolan's films need any marketing push but this is still a very effective promotion of both the IMAX brand and of Nolan. His films 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' were also previewed before IMAX presentations of other films, some months prior to their release.

Unlike 'Rogue One' which will be shown in a constant cinemascope ratio, Nolan's film has many scenes that will fill the entire IMAX frame, which is of a more square shape than the rectangular shape of most multiplex and single screens. True 15/70 IMAX screens are the largest in the world and are supposed to expand beyond a viewer's peripheral vision, completely immersing them in the visuals.

Christopher Nolan's previous films 'The Dark Knight' and its sequel, and 'Interstellar' had over an hour of footage shot with IMAX film cameras. IMAX also uses the digital Alexa65 with custom modifications in many films, but Nolan only shoots film and has been committed to promoting and preserving our celluloid heritage.

As 'Rogue One' has been shot on a digital 65mm equivalent camera and finished on 4K resolution, its film projection should look really good on the big screen. However, it won't be a match for 'Dunkirk' which has been shot entirely on 70mm 5 perforation and 15 perforation film, with the latter said to contain about 10-12K equivalent of projected resolution.

'Dunkirk' will be released worldwide, starting 19 July, 2017 and will have over 100 minutes of IMAX footages.
