The Weeknd has finally explained the real reason why he cut off his famous dreads. The Canadian artist recently shocked his fans when he ditched his iconic hairstyle.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, The Weeknd whose real name is Abel Tesfaye talked about his signature hair. He said: "It was actually very uncomfortable. I could only sleep on one side of my face. Now the sleep is amazing, the shower is amazing because I don't have to spend two hours cleaning it. I didn't know how much I wanted it until I did it."
The Weeknd admitted that his close ones did not want him to cut his hair. He added: "It was a long time coming. It didn't feel right anymore... I told everybody I was getting rid of it, and everybody - literally, unanimously - they were like, 'No, don't do it! That's your whole thing, that's you.' And the way they said that, I was like, 'Oh, I'm definitely cutting it now.'"
In 2015, when speaking to Rolling Stone, The Weeknd said that the dreadlocks made him unique. He stated: "I want to be remembered as iconic and different. So I was like, 'F**k it, I'm gonna let my hair just be what it wants.' I'll probably cut it if it starts interfering with my sight. I can kind of see it right now. But if I cut it, I'd look like everyone else. And that's just so boring to me."
Apparently, even Taylor Swift could not keep her hands off his hair when they met at a party. He explained: "The whole time she was talking, she was kind of, like, petting my hair? I think she was drawn to it — she must have been gone off a few drinks. I'm not going to be like, 'Hey, can you stop?' I mean, it felt good! But when she started petting my hair, that's when I was like, 'I definitely need a drink.'"
