The Mnet Asian Music Awards or MAMA is at the centre of controversy again. This time, a section of Kpop fans are angry with the organisers for their biased choice of winners at MAMA 2017. Netizens have also started a petition on the Korean government's website requesting to end the awards. The petition filed last week has more than 20,000 signs so far. Fans are also demanding legal penalties for people who indulge in multiple and paid votes.
Interestingly, MAMA has always been under accusation for choosing their winners unfairly. "The awards ceremony held for more than a month is exploring people's love for Kpop and sponsors are encouraging the situation through implicit unlimited votes," Nate News quoted a fan.
Meanwhile, in a survey was conducted by a local Korean website, MAMA, which is often dubbed as Asia's Grammy Awards, has been voted out as the most unreliable event in Kpop with zero credibility. Netizens accused MAMA of being biased and favouring talents from few bid entertainment companies.

Out of 3,134 votes, MAMA was ranked first with 860 votes (27%) while Asia Artist Awards (AAA) was ranked second with 362 votes (12%) and the third place was grabbed by Melon Music Award with 327 votes (10%), a report on Osen stated.
MAMA or the Mnet Asian Music Awards is one of the most popular K-pop event ceremony hosted annually by CJ E&M through its music channel Mnet. The annual event is broadcast in South Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. MAMA 2017 will be held from November 25 through December 1, 2017 (dubbed as "MAMA Week") in Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong with the theme, Coexistence.
