The Korean movie "The Swindlers" topped the weekend box office for the second consecutive week while the Hollywood superhero film "Justice League" dropped to fifth place.
Starring Hyun Bin and Yoo Ji-tae, "The Swindlers" sold 671,667 tickets for the weekend period December 1 to 3 to claim the No. 1 spot. It earned US$5.13 million to bring its total haul to $21.49 million with 2.99 million in total admission since opening on November 22, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).
Placing second is the Korean mystery-thriller film "Forgotten" starring Kang Ha Neul and Gim Mu Yeol, which sold 396,043 tickets and earned $2.98 million for the period. Since opening on November 29, its total admission stood at 569,752 with revenues of $4 million.
The Hollywood mystery-drama movie "Murder on the Orient Express" grabbed third place during the weekend with 332,845 in total admission and $2.53 million in earnings to bring its total to 489,052 tickets and $3.46 million. The movie stars Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Placing fourth is "The Chase" with 171,875 tickets sold and $1.29 million in weekend revenues for a total of $1.91 million since November 29.
"Justice League" dropped from second to fifth place during the weekend with 55,830 in total admission and $413,625 in earnings. Since its release in Korea on November 15, it has earned $13.21 million with 1.75 million tickets sold.
