The release of the much anticipated Rajinikanth film titled 2.0 has been apparently postponed and reports claim that the film will hit the screens in April 2018. Initially, Rajinikanth's 2.0 aka Enthiran 2 was scheduled to be released on Januray 26, 2018.

However, the makers have refused to come out in the open to announce the delay in the film's release.

"The next available big date for the release is April 14 which coincides with the celebration of Tamil New Year. The examination season will be more or less over. So, the makers are apparently eyeing the holiday season for the release of 2.0," a Bengaluru-based film distributor, who was associated with a few big films from south India, said.

He added: "The makers seem to have understood the potential of releasing the film in April as family audience will be looking out opportunities to watch good movies in theatres. So, it will be a good decision to release 2.0 in April. Let's not forget the film is rich in VFXs and kids will love to watch such film. Baahubali makers clearly understood this and released the second part in April."

The Tamil media reported that release of 2.0 was postponed due to the delay in the completion of post-production works.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the online streaming rights of the film, bankrolled by Lyca Productions, have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video by signing a deal for an undisclosed record amount.

"Amazon Prime Video is happy to join hands with Lyca Productions for the exclusive streaming rights for this mega blockbuster film. Both, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar are phenomenal actors with an unbelievable fan following that will soon get the chance to stream the sequel of Rajnikanth's memorable movie on their favourite streaming device," Vijay Subramaniam, director for content at Amazon Prime Video said.

Shankar's 2.0 is a science fiction that has been billed as the most expensive project ever in Indian film history. Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, the two big names from the country, will be locking horns in the flick, which has Amy Jackson playing the female lead. Oscar Award winner AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.
