Korean boy band 2PM member Taecyeon is wishing that he can enlist in the military this year to fulfill his duty.

While other stars postpone their military enlistment until they reach 30, Taecyeon wants to go.

"I really want to go (to the military) this year. I will if the Military Manpower Administration summons me," said the 28-year-old singer and actor, according to Yonhap News.

Taecyeon made known his goal at the press conference on July 27 for the Korean drama "Save Me," which will air on OCN starting on Aug. 5.

He was born in South Korea but grew up in the US. He gave up his US Green Card to be able to enlist in the Korean military. He also underwent disk surgery in preparation for his military service. He will serve as an active duty soldier when he enlists.

"Save Me" is a thriller about a religious cult and Taecyeon said it intrigued him.

"The biggest reason for choosing 'Save Me' was the opportunity to work with excellent actors. Also the subject involving a religious cult isn't something that comes along easily. I found it intriguing," he said. The series also stars Seo Ye-Ji and Woo Do-Hwan.

Taecyeon essays the role of Han Sang-hwan, a high school student who joins the cult to save his first love, Yonhap News added. The drama is based on the webtoon "Out In the World."

According to him, "The charm of this drama is seeing how characters grow when they are faced with irrational social norms."

Film director Kim Sung-soo is in charge of the drama.

"I came across very good material and thought I had to direct it, not minding whether it should be a movie or a TV drama," he said.

The TV series could be Taecyeon's last project before his enlistment.
