Super Junior member Sungmin is going through some hard times following his painful decision to withdraw participation in his group's upcoming album after fans boycotted him.

But his mother sees this as an opportunity for the singer to learn.

"To tell the truth, I think Sungmin is learning some important life lessons from the recent controversies. Having lived the life of an idol star, Sungmin grew up without facing real life struggles. Because of that, he was far from worldly-wise," Kang Kyung-sook, Sungmin's mother, told the Korea Herald.

Instead of nine, Super Junior will be coming back this year with only seven members. Only Leeteuk, Donghae, Yesung, Heechul, Siwon, Donghae and Eunhyuk will promote while Kangin and Sungmin will not be included.

Fans boycotted Sungmin, accusing him of disrespecting them for not communicating with them especially about his 2014 marriage.

Her mother added, "If you don't have an umbrella to protect yourself when it's raining, you just have to get soaked, don't you think?"

Earlier this month, Sungmin apologized to fans for the controversies and announced that he will not join Super Junior in the new album.

"First of all, I want to apologize for troubling so many fans. There has been a lot of negative talk surrounding me lately, but it was something I couldn't act alone on, so I'm very sorry for the late response," he said, according to Soompi.

He said when he was preparing for his marriage, "I don't think I was very considerate and truthful to my fans who have loved me for over 10 years. I think I should've communicated better with my fans who got hurt by various rumors and misunderstandings."

"Considering my ongoing controversy, I think my decision to withdraw from this album is best for the group. I'm really sorry to my fans who have loved and supported me, but I think I need more time to reflect and work harder. I ask all ELFs to support Super Junior's upcoming comeback," he said. He also did not perform during SM TOWN Live concerts in Korea and Japan.

Sungmin's mother believes that these difficult times will pass.

"I believe this, too, shall pass. This is a good opportunity for Sungmin to learn what life is, and I think he has been getting along pretty well by accepting the reality. He is also discovering new talents and helping out with his wife's business these days," she said.
